My Summer Evening Routine

evening routine
I don’t know about you, but I thrive on routine.  I have an evening routine that has helped me to stay organized and more relaxed before bedtime.  My summer routine tends to be quite a bit different than other times through the year.  My girls are in school so the rest of the year we have homework and a lot of other things that keep us super busy.  I love our summer evening routine because it is a lot more laid-back and fun!

I think having a great evening routine sets you up for success the next day.

After getting off work, we will have dinner.  I am not the greatest cook.  My husband does the cooking when he is not working.  If he is not home, I usually cook something quick and easy.  I try to avoid eating out all the time, but I do pick up dinner for us occasionally.

After eating dinner, we will clean up the kitchen.  My older daughter’s main chore is to unload and re-load the dishwasher.  She will usually do this, and I will finish washing the rest of the dishes and clean the surfaces in the kitchen.  Having a clean kitchen to wake up to the next morning relieves so much stress for me!

Because my girls are out of school and at home playing with their toys all day, there’s usually a pretty good mess to clean up in their rooms and in the living room.  The girls will clean up their toys and I usually straighten up the rest of the house quickly.  I just can’t relax at the end of the night if my living room has toys everywhere.

After the house has been straightened up quickly, the girls will get ready for bed.  This includes showers, pajamas and teeth brushing.  My older daughter picks out her clothes in the morning, but I always lay my younger daughter’s outfit out for the next day.  This allows her to easily get up in the morning and not have to wait for me to pick out her clothes.

Before bed, we will usually read a book and say our prayers.  I tuck them in and then it’s mommy’s time!  Some days I am counting down to bedtime from the moment I wake up in the morning!

I love to shower at night.  This allows me to go to bed with a clean body and clean face!  I am terrible at getting lazy at night and not washing my makeup off before bed.  I know how terrible this is for my skin, so I have made it a goal to shower each night and wash my face.  After my shower, I have my night time skin care routine.  It feels so great to climb into bed at night after a long hot shower.

I like to lay out my clothes for the next day.  Because I work from home, my outfit usually consists of some leggings and a comfy shirt, but it still helps having it all ready to go in the morning.

One of my favorite things to do at night to relax is to sit with my husband and watch TV.  We enjoy that alone time.

Before going to bed, I like to take a quick peek at my planner.  There have been many times that I was so happy I looked at my plans for the next day because there was something I needed to do the night before that I would have forgotten about.  It helps to set yourself up for success by doing a tiny bit of pre-planning for the next day!

I hope this has helped inspire you to come up with an organized evening routine!  My mornings are so much more successful because of my evening routine.  These small things I do each night help me so much!

I’m including the link to my YouTube video to show you guys more about our evening routine!!  What are some things you all do to help set yourself up for success the next day?

Weekend Coffee Chat

Welcome back to my weekend coffee chat!  We made it to another weekend!  It has been a busy week around my house.  We have had my mom and little brother and little sister visiting.  They got to go to vacation Bible school each night while they were visiting.  It has been a blast!

We went to a local park and got some pictures while they were here.  They had fun running around while we snapped some pictures.

This is me with my youngest daughter, Reese.  She was walking with her hand on her hip shaking back and forth.  Neither of my girls lack sass and drama, that’s for sure!

I sure do love my girls!!

As I have mentioned before, I work from home.  Most days I avoid staying in my pajamas all day.  I am all about being comfy and cute while I’m working.  I bought this shirt in both black and grey recently.  The first one I bought was a medium and it ran a little big, so I got a second one in small in a different color.  These shirts are so comfortable and really cute!

My hair has been so dry lately.  I switched to this conditioner last week and I am so impressed!  Not only does it leave my hair feeling so soft, but it also smells incredible and leaves a minty fresh tingly feeling on my scalp, which I love.  I wanted to try it for a while but was hesitant because of the price, but I found it at Sam’s Club for almost half the normal price!!  I was excited!

Since I have lost a little over 90 pounds, my wedding bands literally fall off my finger.  I haven’t taken the time to get my rings resized yet, but I wanted to have something on my finger as a wedding band.  I bought some of these from Amazon and I may never go back to wearing my wedding set again!  They are so comfortable!  I like how they come in different colors, although I usually always wear the white one.

Summer Fun From the Dollar Tree

While my girls are out for summer break, I wanted to buy some craft items to keep them busy.  Craft items can be really expensive!  This is why I headed to my local Dollar Tree and stocked up on some fun goodies to help them stay occupied all summer long.

I am blessed to get to work from home, which I love. My girls stay at home with me while I work, but I am not able to keep them occupied while I’m working.

I made them a schedule to stick to, which includes craft time each day. I went to Target and bought this tote to keep their crafting supplies organized.  So far, they have really looked forward to craft time each day!

I bought some paint for them to use outside. This allows them to get some fresh air also. I bought some newspapers to line my patio table to avoid paint getting everywhere.

My girls previously made a fairy house for the backyard, and I happened to find a fairy door at the Dollar Tree for them to paint. They loved painting this fairy door to add to their fairy house.

They have had a lot of fun being creative and actually getting along (most of the time) instead of sitting around all day with their screens.  Don’t get me wrong, we still have plenty of screen time during the day!  I thought about creating a blog post and YouTube video about our summer schedule that we are following.  This schedule is working out really well so far for us!  Let me know if you would be interested in seeing that!

I also did a YouTube video which shows each product I bought at the Dollar Tree to give you all some ideas of what is available.  There is so much to be found at the Dollar Tree.  You just can’t beat their prices!  What are some things that keep your kids occupied during the summer?  I would love more suggestions!

Minivan and Car Organization Hacks

I got my minivan close to a year ago.  I absolutely love it.  Minivans are super cool now right??  Since I had kids, my cars have stayed trashed.  When we bought this van, I vowed I would keep it clean.  I figured I would keep it clean for about a month and then it would continue the same pattern I had with my other cars.  I am surprised to say that I have continued to keep my van clean and organized!

I found some great ways to help me stay clean and organized in my van, and I wanted to share these tips!

I used to throw trash in the space on my driver side door.  Trash would end up getting knocked everywhere through the car.  My first hack is to buy a command strip hook to hang a gift bag up for a DIY trash bag.  I line the gift bag with grocery store bags.  I always have an extra supply of grocery bags in my glove compartment.  When the bag fills up, I throw the grocery bag away and pop in another one!  This keeps the trash in one place and makes it look so much better.

The second hack is to keep essentials stocked up in your van or car.  I included some of my essentials in the picture.  My essentials include the following: swiffer duster to keep all the dust and crumbs away, baby wipes, travel size febreze bottle, a pen and gum.  The essentials will be different for everyone.  Think about those things that you wish you had at certain times, such as baby wipes when your kids are sticky after eating lollipops, and stock up!

My favorite hack of all is to keep emesis (vomit) bags in your car!  Isn’t it the worst when you have a kid say their stomach is hurting and you think there may be a chance of them throwing up in the car!?  I bought these bags from Amazon.  They are the bags that are used in the emergency rooms.  They hold quite a bit and make it convenient if anyone does happen to get sick in the car.

A lot of times, my kids will have screens in the car to stay occupied on long trips.  We try not to let our girls stay on screens all day.  I bought these great lap trays at Hobby Lobby.  They sit right over their laps and have pockets for coloring supplies.  They can also eat on these on long trips!  I always keep these trays in the car along with a bag of coloring supplies. I only allow colored pencils in the van to avoid finding melted crayons.

I share even more hacks in my video on YouTube.  I’ll post it below so you can check out even more helpful tips!  I know these tips have helped me so much to stay clean and organized in my minivan!  I hope this has inspired you to find ways to keep your minivan or car clean and organized!

Weekend Coffee Chat

Happy Saturday!  Welcome back to my weekend coffee chat!  I’m enjoying sitting on my patio in the warm weather to drink my morning coffee.  We also redecorated our patio.  I love it!  My girls got out of school this week, so we have officially started summer break!  I couldn’t be happier about that!

We have a fun week ahead of us.  My mom, little brother, and little sister are coming to stay for the week.  We plan on going out and doing some fun things outside, weather permitting.

I got a new haircut recently.  It was a little shorter than I was expecting but I have grown to love it, especially for these hot days!

Did you catch my new YouTube video about some great hacks for keeping your minivan or car organized?  I plan on doing a blog post about it this coming week.  I will include the link to the video.

I bought these new shoes recently.  They are so easy to slip on quickly and get out of the house.  I love the blush color and they are very comfortable!  I usually wear flip flops in the summer, but I have been wearing these quite often.  I also got a pair in gray.  I will probably be living in these when the weather starts getting cooler again.  (Let’s not talk about the weather getting cold again.  We finally got it to warm up!)

My favorite nail color this summer has been from OPI.  I mentioned a favorite top coat during my May favorites video recently.  This top coat from Essie is great to help your polish last longer!

Have you all started online grocery shopping?  If not, why not!?  I started online grocery shopping in my area about six months ago.  I can’t imagine going grocery shopping any other way now!  As you can imagine, going grocery shopping with kids is not always a fun experience.  I knew that ordering groceries online and then pulling into a parking lot and having someone load the groceries into my van would be so convenient, but I didn’t realize how much money I would save!  I spend about half as much on my groceries since starting this.  It’s easy to have those impulse purchases which add up while you’re walking around the grocery store.  When I do it online, I stick to exactly what I need, and I’m not tempted to get a bunch of food we don’t need.  Try it!  Let me know what you think!

I hope you all have an excellent week!

Weekend Coffee Chat

Hello and happy Saturday!  Welcome to my first weekend coffee chat!  It has been a busy and fun week around my house.  My youngest daughter, Reese, graduated from pre-kindergarten.  She has been so excited to go up on the stage and do her performance with her friends.  For some reason, it never dawned on me that I would get emotional during this graduation.  They played the graduation song and all the kids walked in together in a line and my eyes filled with tears!  Reese won the happiest kid award and that just about melted my heart!  It was fun getting dressed up with my girls and my husband.  It’s fun having girls who love being girly and getting dressed up!

I recently bought this which has changed my coffee drinking game while I’m working.  I work from home and I’m on the phone quite a bit during the day.  I’m used to getting up and warming up one cup of coffee about five times before I have the time to finish it.  Not anymore!!  I just put my coffee cup on this and it stays warm for hours!

I ordered this awesome deal last week.  I absolutely love this tinted moisturizer and because it was included in the kit and was offered at such a great deal, I had to order it.  I wore the lip gloss that came with this kit last night during the graduation, and I loved it!  It was a perfect spring pink with a hint of shimmer.  I’m not one to usually use lip gloss with shimmer, but this one offered just the right amount!  The staying power for a lip gloss was also pretty impressive.

I have been wearing this necklace almost every day.  I ordered the gold one.  I have my necklaces hanging up and Reese likes to help me pick out my jewelry.  She has been getting frustrated because I always want to wear this necklace, but I really love it!  I also ordered this necklace in silver and put my girls’ names on it.  I love both of them so much and definitely plan on ordering more from this site!

I’m working on furthering my degree to become a family nurse practitioner.  I have been a registered nurse for almost ten years and I’m looking forward to further my knowledge and taking on this new responsibility!  I have decided to take this summer off so I’m enjoying this little break from school.

My girls will be out of school soon for summer break and we have a lot of fun things planned!  I am working on ideas to keep them busy this summer while I’m working so they don’t sit in front of screens all day to stay occupied.  I plan on doing a blog post and maybe a video about these ideas.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there!!  I have had a wonderful day with my two girls and my husband.  We woke up and had tea and homemade raspberry lemon scones.  They were delicious!!  If you’re interested in the recipe, I’ll be happy to share in a post one day.  Let me know in the comments if you’re interested.

My in-laws got me the beautiful tea set shown in the picture above for Christmas.  I’m obsessed with it.  I would put a link to it, but it was from Teavana and they unfortunately went out of business this year.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly never understood how difficult yet rewarding it would be to be a mother until I experienced it myself.  I have sat back so many times and felt terrible for the things I did to my parents, even something so little as constantly arguing with my little sister, now that I know how hard it is to have kids.  Ugh.. isn’t sibling arguing the worst!?  Why can’t we all just get along!?

My girls are five and ten.  My ten year old thinks she is a teenager already.  We were eating dinner out last night and she saw some teenagers all dressed up for prom and she got sad that she wasn’t old enough to do that.  I’m trying to teach her to enjoy being in forth grade because one day she will look back and wish she was back in forth grade!  Although, it’s pretty fun growing up in my opinion.  My five year old just goes with the flow and is hilarious.  I have truly enjoyed my girls at each stage so far!

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day!  What did you all do to celebrate Mother’s Day?
